SoS: Scents of Solastalgia Eco-sensory Workshop with Tarsh Bates & Alanna Lynch
Event description
Have you noticed that the smells around you have changed? Do you miss the old smells or love the new ones?
Aromas are everywhere. They affect us and the life around us in ways that can be challenging to describe. Changes in these aromas can have profound effects on how we feel physically and emotionally. Finding ways to understand, navigate and create smellscapes can help us feel more connected to the world around us.
In this eco-sensory workshop, artists Tarsh Bates & Alanna Lynch invite you to notice smells produced by your environment, how they have changed or might change and how you feel about those changes. We will play with imagining and creating smellscapes and olfactory lexicons.
Join us to explore tools for understanding how smell connects us with environments that are, will be no more, and are yet to come.
This workshop is part of the Scents of Solastalgia project developed by Tarsh Bates and Susan Hauri-Downing during a Quick Response Artist Residency at Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, 22.1.2024 - 18.2.2024. The project is supported by PICA’s Art Ambassadors, DLGSC, Western Australia and Umeå University, Sweden.
