Soundscape Workshop
Event description
In this hands-on workshop, artist Susie Dureau shares how she uses spectrograms to translate sound into visual art. Known for her interdisciplinary approach that weaves together painting, sound, and environmental science, Susie invites participants to explore the hidden patterns of sound in the world around them.
Using a spectrograph app on their own phones, participants will learn how to record ambient sounds—such as birdsong, wind, or distant traffic—and generate visual data in the form of spectrograms. These images then become the basis for an artwork that bridges listening and seeing, data and imagination.
This workshop is a chance to slow down and notice the sonic textures of a place, while experimenting with an innovative art-making process rooted in Susie’s broader practice of revealing unseen natural forces through colour, movement and light. No prior experience necessary—just curiosity and a phone. Be prepared to pay $5.99 for the app.
