    Event description

Learning to make fresh, mouth-watering sourdough is a gift that keeps on giving. Once you learn the basics of making sourdough, it’s a skill for life that only improves with time.

Join Tristan from Growing Together in this 3-hour introductory workshop, where he will teach you everything you need to know to get your sourdough skills off the ground:

    • Creating and maintaining your starter
    • Recipes, folding and shaping methods
    • Scoring and baking techniques
    • The science behind fermentation and gluten development
    • Managing variables and “reading” the dough
    • Managing your time schedule
    • And much more!

During this hands-on workshop, each participant will mix, fold and shape their own loaf of sourdough, ready to be baked the next day at home. And of course we’ll get to sample some freshly-baked sourdough that has been prepared in advance.

You’ll also receive a sourdough starter kit to take home as part of your ticket (valued at $15):

    1. Proving basket
    2. Dough scraper
    3. Sourdough starter (please BYO container)

    About the Teacher

Tristan first got into sourdough 7 years ago after watching the Michael Polan documentary “Cooked”. There was something so fascinating, yet refreshingly simple, about combining three ingredients and creating a totally different end product - something that has been around for millenia. He taught himself over the years, with bits of help along the way from people here and there, and worked in a sourdough bakery in Wollongong for a stint of time. Not a week has gone by where he hasn’t made sourdough, and he is constantly striving to refine his technique and final product.

    About Growing Together South Coast

We are a not-for-profit with the aim to enhance community connectivity and resilience with regenerative growing practices on the NSW South Coast. We empower and educate people through local food systems, promoting physical and mental well-being for a sustainable future.

We focus on small-scale, local market gardens on shared land, and provide community-outreach through educational events and workshops.

All proceeds from this workshop will go directly to various projects run by Growing Together South Coast.

    No experience needed!

We welcome everyone along to this introductory workshop. Even if you have been baking for a while and want to get more consistent, high quality results; this workshop is for you. We will be running an intermediate workshop later in the year for those who are ready to take their sourdough to the next level - stay tuned for details.
