Event description

The Southern Cemetery is the oldest one in the tours.

It contains most of the leaders of the Scots who arrived in Dunedin in 1848.

Featured stories in the tour are - a survivor of the Charge of the Light Brigade, the 17th Earl of Glengarry, a Polish Prince, victims of a triple murder, the saddest epitaph I have yet to read, and a Polish Tailor who travelled to London a century ago with a friend who became a Hollywood millionaire.

  • Meet in the carpark of the The Southern cemetery.  There's only a few spaces for cars but parking on the street and walking up the driveway is an option.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for the weather.  The cemetery has lots of beautiful shady trees but can get chilly out of the sun.
  • You're welcome to take photos and videos during the tour and share to social media.
  • 90 minutes long.
  • Tickets are self refundable up to one day before the event.  Booking fee not refunded.  If you can't attend because you're unwell after refunds have closed, email darkestdunedin@gmail.com for a credit.
