Southern Lights - Ice Hockey Come and Try
Description
Get some hands-on hockey experience in a safe, supportive environment at our next Come & Try - zero hockey or skating experience needed!
Come & Try - What to expect
When you get to the rink, keep an eye out for the friendly folk with the rainbows and penguins - they'll be there to greet you and show you where to go.
We'll help you pick up your skates and equipment (which will have been sanitised by the rink beforehand) and help you find the changing room. All changing rooms are gender neutral, with private cubicles to change in if you'd prefer. Showers are also available (with individual shower cubicles).
We'll be getting on the ice at 6:45 PM. Hockey gear can take a little while to get on properly your first time, which is why we'd love you to arrive around 6:00 PM.
On the ice, we'll split into several groups and have some fun while learning the basics. You'll get an intro to skating, stick-handling and everyone will have a chance to hit some pucks around.
Afterwards, we'd love for you to join us at the pub across the road, Urban Alley Brewery, for dinner and some off-ice socialising.
Come & Try - What to bring & wear
Bring a bottle of water - you'll need it.
You'll need to bring some socks to wear under your skates - thick socks are best to protect your feet and ankles and keep you warm! And remember, ice rinks are also full of people wearing blades strapped to their feet, so wear closed-toe shoes to the event to keep yourself safe off the ice.
Under their gear, most of our players wear workout skins or shorts and a T-shirt. You'll get pretty warm once you start skating, so lightweight exercise apparel is generally best. These will be (very) wet when you're done, so bring a change of clothes if you need to.
