Lindsay farmed his Northern Southland Sheep & Beef farm for 24 years from 1982.
In 2008 he was an inaugural trustee of the new Southland Rural Support Trust. He became chair of the SRST the week of the big snow in 2010. In 2013 he moved to the trust coordinator role, which he held until 2023.
In 2014 Lindsay joined with WellSouth PHO to develop the GoodYarn mental health literacy workshop for rural communities in Southland and Otago. Demand has since spread to all communities and workplaces nationwide, and beyond. He is a board member of the Good Programmes Trust which manages GoodYarn.
Life experiences and challenges provide the empathy necessary for both Rural Support and GoodYarn.
“My whole life has been an apprenticeship for what I do today. We don’t know how a person is feeling, but we understand what causes it”
