- SPACE is an all ages and alcohol free concert which is specifically focused on being as accessible as possible for both performers and attendees with a range of disabilities and other additional access needs.
- SPACE II is being held at 5:00pm on the 2nd of March, 2024 at The Factory, a venue in North Richmond which has been donated to us for use by Belgium Avenue Neighbourhood House.
- SPACE is the name of an ongoing concert series in Naarm (also known as Melbourne).
- SPACE acknowledges the Wurundjeri Willam of the Kulin Nation as the rightful custodians of the land where our concert is held. Sovereignty has never been ceded. This means that the land where we live was stolen and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island have never agreed to it, and that no agreement or treaty was made with the people who colonised and took over the land. The people who organise SPACE believe that the land always was and always will be Aboriginal land. For this reason we will never charge First Nations people to come to our events, and we “pay the rent” by giving money from our ticket sales to groups run by First Nations people to look after their community in the way they choose. - Because SPACE is run by people with disabilities and are on NDIS we understand that it can be hard to come to events in person. For this reason if you need to bring a carer or support person, they do not have to pay for a ticket.
- We stream our concerts online so you can watch from home.
- SPACE concerts are safe for all expressions of gender and sexuality.
- The organisers of SPACE are anti-capitalist, anti-zionist, anti-racist, and anti-white supremacist. If you experience behaviour that is not in line with our values, or if anyone makes you feel unsafe at SPACE, please tell organisers who can be found wearing bright pink vests on the night, and we will manage the situation and remove attendees if necessary.

RACERAGE
Sadly last time Racerage wasn’t able to perform due to illness, so of course we had to have them back for SPACE II. Racerage is a queer Black radical rapbrat. Spitting bars and shattering white fragility with hard-hitting lyricism, smooth harmonies and wry wit. They collaborate primarily with other First Nations, POC, queer and trans producers, artists and performers, exploring themes of intersectional feminism, decolonisation, class, genocide, and life in the queer bubble. Racerage infuses dark electronic hip hop with defiant punk energy and a unique colourful DIY aesthetic. Racerage takes their audience on a journey across the emotional spectrum, intertwining the personal with the political.
STRIBORG
Striborg is the long running and prolific music project of Russell Menzies aka Sin Nanna. While initially gaining international recognition as a brilliant, yet reclusive black metal and ambient artist, in recent years he has pivoted towards a unique and exciting black wave style, utilising synthesisers and drum machines and taking aesthetics and elements from black metal such as the atmosphere, themes and vocal style in addition to mixing it with the music and aesthetics of darkwave, synth pop, electro, EBM, witch house, techno and dark ambient music. His increasingly frequent live shows often treat audiences to an ecstatic and energising performance with colourful lights, movement and occasionally even break dancing! In addition to his music, Striborg is also an outspoken autism advocate.
ANNA SAVAGE
Anna savage is a visual artist, musician and writer. She has released two songs on Altered States Tapes that have been described as “Playfully naive, but also presenting as familiar as an old-friend”. Due to her severe me/cfs all her creative output is made from bed or the bedroom. She writes a semi regular substack called The Psychic Weather Report, that explores her interest in astrology, philosophy and mysticism in a modern and mundane context.
DARLENE
Darlene is a prolific trans and neurodivergent musician, artist and organiser who has been making and releasing music through various names for almost two decades. She has been known mostly for her deconstructed and glacially slow country music released as AA Matheson. She has also performed and released ambient and experimental music solo as Bison Grass, and as one half of the duos Boquillas and WE1 XAM. Darlene now performs and releases all her solo music under her real name Darlene. Darlene is a proud and outspoken disability and LGBTQIA+ advocate. She founded and co manages the co-op DIY label Marfa Lights, and is the founder and coordinator of SPACE.
Accessibility details:
Masks are mandatory at this event: event staff will remind you to wear your mask if you are unmasked for an extended amount of time without good reason. This is to ensure safety for all attendees but particularly our peers with who are immunocompromised.
The surface outside the venue is tarred slightly bumpy footpath. There is parking along the street which can at times be somewhat limited but the venue will reserve space at the entrance way where possible for transport to drop people at the door. The Factory is a large indoor space with polished floorboards. The entrance has wide double doors with a small rubber threshold ramp at the entryway.
The venue has plenty of soft comfortable couches to sit on as well as plenty of movable chairs. The Dance floor will be clear along with a clear path from the entrance to the stage.
A chill out room will be provided with dim lighting and comfortable seating in a side room.
Tables providing free water will be at a height that is convenient for wheelchair users.
Smoking or vaping is not permitted on site however there is a public park opposite the venue. We ask that you do not smoke at the entrance to respect people with respiratory and sensory needs.
Transport:
Bathrooms at the venue are wheelchair accessible and gender neutral.
Public transport is available by train, bus and tram.
The number 12 and 109 trams can be taken to stop 20 - corner of Victoria st and Lennox St. it is a 7 minute walk to the venue approximately.
The number 78 tram can be taken to stop 62 - the corner of Highett st and Church st. It is a 4 minute walk approximately.
The Mernda and Hurstbridge trains can be taken to West Richmond station. It is a 7 minute walk approximately.
The 246 bus can be taken to the West Richmond station stop. It is a 10 minute walk approximately.
