SPARK Webinar: Pregnancy making support for women with intellectual or learning disability who are experiencing reproductive coercion and abuse

This is a knowledge sharing webinar which will present the consumer’s lived experience of the challenges and the skills required to work with pregnancy decision making in the context of violence and reproductive coercion.

WWILD and Children by Choice have been funded under the WorkUP Collaborative Grants Program to talk with people with intellectual and/or learning disabilities and DFVSA sector workers about their experiences working together to support sexual and reproductive health and autonomy.

Workers and consumers share their ideas about adapting practice and existing resources to best support women who may present to DFVSA services.

Learning Outcomes:

Increased knowledge about working with intellectual disability in the context of sexual and reproductive rights and decision making
Develop adaptive counselling practice with people with intellectual disability in the context of violence and reproductive coercion
Increased knowledge of accessible sexual and reproductive health resources

About the facilitators

Victoria Tucker

Victoria Tucker has worked in the disability sector for 18 years, a social worker, trauma counsellor and group worker, Victims of Crime support worker and acting Manager at WWILD. Victoria utilises a person-centred and trauma-informed practice model and strengths and relationship-based practice approaches in supporting people in recovery.

Steph Chen

Steph Chen has worked as a social worker for 20 years in community and tertiary hospital health settings. Providing non-directive unplanned pregnancy and post-abortion counselling in Victoria and Queensland, she is Education and Training Project Officer at Children by Choice, and dedicated to increasing sector knowledge about strategies to support reproductive autonomy.
