    This webinar will look at Queensland legislation in relation to the mistake of fact excuse and consent and how these interact with each other as well as provide a summary and overview about the advocacy and hoped for amendments to the legislation.

    Topics covered will include:

    • What did the Queensland Law Reform Commission recommend? Is it a change? Is it the same?
    • Amendments passed on the 25th of March 2021, what do they mean?

    The one-hour webinar aims to support people working in the sexual assault workforce to understand recent changes to rape law in Queensland and to prompt discussion in terms of what this means for their work.

        About the facilitators

        Julie Sarkozi

        Julie Sarkozi has practiced law for over 16 years, and has been working at the Women’s Legal Service since 2012. Julie currently provides advice, assistance and representation to survivors of sexual violence in relation to their counselling notes as the Counselling Notes Protect Solicitor.   Before becoming a lawyer,  Julie worked in the community sector in women’s refuges, rape and incest crisis support, and drug and alcohol. Julie has been part of the Queensland wide push for amendment to the existing legislation around sexual assault and consent.
