    Event description

Join Spartak and Alphamale for a pair of rare performances at Drill Hall Gallery on Sunday 19 November. Their only live sets on Ngunnawal Country for 2023, don't miss this afternoon of improvisation and extended sound as approached by some of Canberra's finest sonic explorers.

    Spartak
As Spartak, Sia Ahmad and Evan Dorrian have released numerous collections of tweakers rock, jazz abstraction and minimal electronics on labels such as Low Point, Feral Media and New Weird Australia since 2007. They've performed around the Australian continent, Singapore, Malaysia and Japan alongside the likes of My Disco, Andrew Pekler, Lucky Dragons, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Minamo, Shigeto, Gold Panda, Mark Pritchard and Container. Known for their solo practice and work with acclaimed outfit Tangents, their performances as a duo are free-flowing improvisations, using machines and live instrumentation to create a singular wall of noise.

    Alphamale
Hannah de Feyter is a musician and filmmaker from Ngunnawal country / Canberra. Her solo experimental viola project ALPHAMALE explores connections between sound and gender expression. Hannah’s scores for theatrical and film work include Vinegar Tom (Ainslie & Gorman Arts Centres), Unbecoming (Canberra Theatre Centre), and a series of short films with the feminist erotica project A Four Chambered Heart. She performs live scores for silent films which highlight the forgotten work of women in the early film industry. Her short films include Draifa (2019) and Diorama (2020), and her work has played at Stronger than Fiction Film Festival, Lit Windows, You Are Here Festival, and Canberra Short Film Festival.
