Event description

Palliative Care Tasmania’s ‘Speaker Series’ is a great mix of industry experts covering specialty topics in end-of-life care including diverse topics such as legal, guardianship, finance, mental health, grief and more.

Guest Speaker: Jess Sanders

Jess Sanders is a social worker and award-winning author with over seven years’ experience supporting the well-being of young people. She has a particular interest in talking about topics that are considered taboo such as gender, mental health, and grief. Jess believes that when we shed light on taboo topics, we are able to eradicate shame and foster connection, healing and growth. Jess is currently the coordinator of PCT’s Learning Through Loss Program - an educational training that supports teachers to better support young people through grief and loss.

Topic: Supporting young people through grief and loss

Jess will explore with us:

  • Common myths about grief;
  • How grief and loss affect young people;
  • What to say to a young person navigating grief and loss;
  • How to empathetically listen;
  • Why you need to fill your own cup before filling others.

This session is suitable for PCT Members and anyone who would like to know more about supporting young people through loss, including health professionals, educators, parents, carers and volunteers working with young people.

This session will be recorded and all attendees will have access to the recording.
