Mother + Daughter: Period & Puberty Workshop

NEXT DATE - SAT 10 OCT

A warm, fun and age-appropriate workshop for girls aged 8+ and their mother or trusted adult to explore puberty, periods and growing up together. You’ll leave with a shared language, practical tools, and a stronger foundation for ongoing conversations at home.

Testimonials

  • A safe, fun and informative space

The Franklie puberty and period talk provided a safe, fun and informative space for my 8 year old daughter to explore the topics and ask questions, I would thoroughly recommend attending!

  • An informative & supportive workshop

An informative, supportive workshop that really helped to open up discussions in our family around periods and puberty, and create a support network for my daughter and her friends.

Why a puberty workshop?

For many girls, a first period can feel confusing, surprising or even worrying if they have not been given enough information beforehand. Research consistently shows that feeling informed before starting their period, or early on, helps girls feel more prepared, more confident, and more positive about this transition.

This workshop is here to help make that happen.

It is designed to give girls and their trusted adults the chance to learn together, ask questions, build confidence, and start these conversations earlier, before they feel urgent or awkward.

Format

This is not a lecture-style workshop. It is a relaxed, engaging and interactive experience designed to help everyone feel comfortable.

We keep each workshop small, with a maximum of 6 pairs (adult + child), so it feels personal, supportive and easy to take part in.

Expect:

  • engaging & age-appropriate education led by Leah, our registered midwife

  • hands-on learning and introduction to period products

  • crafty activities and creative moments

  • afternoon tea + many breaks

  • answering our anonymous questions

  • take-home resources to continue the conversation at home

What we’ll cover

We’ll talk about growing up in a way that feels fun, relaxed and age-appropriate, including:

  • the changes that happen as girls grow

  • feelings, hormones and all the ups and downs

  • a gentle introduction to periods

  • signs that puberty may be starting

  • helpful ways to feel more prepared and supported

  • period products and how they can help

FAQs

  • Is this suitable if my daughter has not started puberty yet?

Yes. This workshop is designed to support early, age-appropriate conversations before or during the first stages of puberty. It is especially helpful for girls who are starting to ask questions, notice body changes, or would benefit from feeling prepared.

  • My daughter has already started bleeding. Is it too late?

Not at all. Many girls begin bleeding before they have had the chance to fully understand what is happening in their body. This workshop can still be incredibly helpful in building knowledge, answering questions, normalising the experience, and helping both of you feel more confident moving forward.

  • Is it appropriate for an 8-year-old?

Yes. The workshop is designed for girls aged 8+ and the content is shared in a gentle, clear and age-appropriate way. That said, you know your child best, so you can use your own judgement about whether this feels like the right time. We’ll be running more dates throughout the year, so send us an email if you’d like to be kept updated.

  • What if my daughter feels shy or does not want to talk?

That is completely normal. There is no pressure to speak in front of the group. The session is designed to feel welcoming and low-pressure, and anonymous questions are included so everyone can participate in a way that feels comfortable.

  • Do mothers or trusted adults need prior knowledge?

Not at all. You do not need to know exactly what to say or how to explain things beforehand. This workshop is designed to support both girls and adults.

  • Is it only about periods?

Periods are a main focus, and we also cover the wider context of puberty, hormones, body changes and emotional shifts, so girls can better understand what is happening in their bodies and why.

  • Will we learn about period products?

Yes. Participants will have the chance to explore different period products in a practical, age-appropriate way.

  • Is this a medical appointment?

No. This is an educational and supportive workshop, not an individual medical consultation. While the session is hosted by a registered midwife, it does not replace personal medical advice. If you have any concerns about your child’s health, pain, cycle, or symptoms, please speak with your GP or another qualified health professional.

  • What do we take home?

Each duo receives handouts and a period pack, so the learning can continue at home.

  • I have another question. Can I contact you?

Absolutely. You’re welcome to reach out to us by email first at heyfranklie@gmail.com. You can either send through your question directly, or include your phone number if you’d prefer us to give you a call back. We’re always happy to help you decide whether the workshop feels like the right fit.
