If you want your research to have impact with other scholars or the public, one of the most important things you can do is learn how to communicate compellingly to people who aren’t already experts. Only about three people on the planet are obligated to read your research (hi, supervisory panel!). If you want your findings to reach anyone else—and you do—it’s up to you to understand how to connect with them in a way that makes them want to know more than they already do.

This workshop will help you learn to speak to a wider audience, whether that’s a potential future funder, the media, or friends at a barbeque. You’ll hear from a panel of expert research communicators about how they approach research communication and the role it plays in their professional lives. You’ll also learn practical tips and strategies to crush the elevator pitch, and you’ll have the opportunity to practice your pitch with your fellow HDRs.
