Specialist Teacher Workshop - Taupo

Are you a teacher supporting the learning of an ORS student?

(Specialist ORS Teacher/Teaching Assistant/Class Teacher)

This hands on and practical one day workshop will cover a wide range of tools, strategies and resources designed to help you meet the learning needs of your ORS students.

Content will include:

·       Comprehensive literacy instruction for students with complex communication needs – what are the key elements of literacy instruction your students need to be doing every day to increase their skills? (phonics instruction/language comprehension activities/daily writing).

A range of tools, resources and modifications will be shared along with assessment tools and goal setting ideas.

·       How to develop receptive and expressive language for children with complex communication needs.The use of communication systems throughout the school day – high tech and low tech (communication devices/coreboards and PODD books).

·       The use of a wide range of visual strategies to support receptive language development/behaviour support/self regulation skills/curriculum activites.

·       Numeracy instruction -  Numikon and other visual strategies and resources to work on maths skills.

·       Tips and tricks from other ORS teachers around the country.
