What’s the buzz about?

Are you in 3rd-8th grade and looking to show off your spelling skills? Join us on October 7th at the Glenpool Conference Center for an Epic Spelling Bee! We are so excited to host you and your families at our 2nd annual Epic Spelling Bee, where students will compete for a trophy and ultimately the chance to move on to the Oklahoma Regional Spelling Bee Competition.

Please note that this event is intended for 3rd - 8th grade participants, and students will be required to compete on their current grade level due to the formality of using a national Spelling Bee platform. Each grade level will compete at different times throughout the day. Please see the schedule below for information on when your student will compete. You will have an opportunity to sign up for your child's specific time frame in the registration details.

IMPORTANT: Epic is registered with the Scripps National Spelling Bee platform, and this comes with some important information regarding registration for your student. Epic will host 2 separate Spelling Bees this year, one in the Oklahoma City area and one in the Tulsa area. One winner from each area will move on to the Oklahoma Regional Spelling Bees. Students who participate in the Epic Oklahoma City area Spelling Bee must live in specific counties within the state of Oklahoma. Students who participate in the Epic Tulsa area Spelling Bee must live in other specific counties within the state of Oklahoma. Please look at THIS MAP to ensure your student is registered for the appropriate Epic Spelling Bee according to where you currently live.


Study Lists:  Your registration confirmation email from Humanitix will contain the grade level word lists, so be sure to check that email! Each student is also encourage to download the Word Club app for more practice. 

Upon arrival, please check in with an Epic staff member who will be in Epic gear and located inside the entrance. We’d also love to see you in your Epic gear!

ITINERARY:

Check in with Epic Staff 30 minutes before your grade level event. Due to National Spelling Bee rules, each student will compete at their current grade level.

  • 3rd Grade Competition - Begins at 9:00 am
  • 4th Grade Competition - Begins at 10:00 am
  • 5th Grade Competition - Begins at 11:00 am
  • 6th Grade Competition - Begins at 12:00 pm
  • 7th Grade Competition - Begins at 1:00 pm
  • 8th Grade Competition - Begins at 2:00 pm

***Students will be required to compete on their current grade level due to the formality of using a national Spelling Bee platform.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. What happens if my student misses the first word in the competition?

  • Unfortunately, even if a student misses the first word in their round, they will be eliminated from the competition.

2 . Will there be any words given during the competition that aren’t on the grade-level study list?

  • Yes! The study lists are meant to be a starting point and do not contain every word that will be given during the competition. The WORD CLUB app is a great way to take your Spelling Bee study sessions to the next level.

POLICIES: This activity is only for 3rd-8th grade students. This event is free. You will register for a ticket using Humanitix which will hold your spot as a reservation. Parents, please register yourself and each of your Epic students. This enables the school and the participating location to staff and plan appropriately. Our locations do have a maximum capacity for groups. Therefore, we ask that when registering your students, you only register Epic-enrolled students so that the spots are filled by our students.

Students cannot be dropped off to attend without a parent or guardian. You will need your student’s Epic ID number and teacher’s name when signing up for this activity in Humanitix.

NO CELL PHONES: Students will be asked to leave their cell phones with a caregiver during the competition. Water will be provided at the event in between competitions. Students will be asked to leave all bags, purses, cellphones, drinks, and anything else with their caregiver during the event.

MEDIA POLICY: This is a public event, and photographs and/or video may be taken during the activities. If you would prefer that your student not be photographed or videoed, please let our Epic staff know during check-in.

CANCELLATIONS: As a reminder, if you sign up to come but are unable to make it, please cancel your reservation using your Humanitix confirmation email. This will open up spots for other students.

INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN: If we have inclement weather we will send out communication by email from Humanitix to let you know if the activity has been canceled.
