Decisions, Trade-offs and Trust: Understanding Contraceptive and Hormonal Medication Choices

Choosing a contraceptive method or hormonal medication is rarely a straightforward decision. People's choices are influenced by a range of factors, including personal preferences, health goals, experiences with healthcare providers, perceived risks and benefits, and information accessed through online platforms and social media. As online and social media information continues to expand, understanding how people make decisions about contraception and hormonal medications is increasingly important for clinicians, researchers and policymakers.

Join us for a webinar with Professor Jennifer Hall, Professor of Reproductive Health at the UCL Institute for Women's Health and Co-Director of the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Reproductive Health in England.

An internationally recognised expert in reproductive health, Professor Hall's research focuses on contraception, pregnancy intention, preconception health and reproductive decision-making. She is particularly known for her work on the London Measure of Unplanned Pregnancy (LMUP) and the Desire to Avoid Pregnancy (DAP) Scale. In this presentation, Professor Hall will share findings from the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Reproductive Health's project, Understanding Contraceptive Attitudes and Decision Making.

This innovative study adapted photovoice methods to explore how online information and social media influence contraceptive decision-making and attitudes towards hormonal medications. Professor Hall’s presentation will provide valuable insights into the role of trust, information sources and lived experience in shaping reproductive health decisions, with implications for policy, practice and service delivery.

Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A session.
