What is it about?

The creatures that inhabit our world and live out their physical existence alongside us have perhaps lived larger in our collective spirituality, becoming dual citizens of both an earthly and heavenly space. Their identities and images haunt and obsess us. We want the understanding of what it is to be human by comprehending the essence of being a non-human; and our next closest connection to a power beyond ourselves lies in the creatures of land, sky and water – beasts of earth and spirit.

In Shamanism, ancient knowledge teaches that not only do humans and animals exist in the physical world, they also exist in the spiritual world. The spiritual world is comprised of spirit guides, ancestors, angels, departed loved ones, animal spirit guides, and ascended masters. Spirit animals, also known as animal spirit guides, power animals, and totem animals are messengers in the form of animals that have a personal connection or relationship with an individual.

You can have many animal spirit guides throughout your life. Generally, they come in and out of your life in moments of need to provide guidance, lessons, protection, balance, power, and/or wisdom. They can appear in the form of a physical interaction e.g. crossing paths with them in the physical world, in dreams, in meditations; or in the form of pets as “familiars”. You can also use oracle cards to receive guidance from an animal spirit guide.

When a particular spirit animal stays with you for many years or even throughout your life it is termed a power or totem animal. Whichever spirit animal serves that purpose will depend on numerous factors, including the timing and direction of your life, specific occurrences that manifest, which phase of life you’re currently in, and which tasks you are responsible for completing. Shamans around the world have been relying on the guidance and wisdom of spirit animals for centuries.

Why do this workshop?

Each Animal Totem will have information and a message for you as it crosses your path or your dreams with particular meaning that is specific to you. Wisdom from this animal totem will be what you need as guidance at that very moment.

A power animal will generally have repetitive encounters with you in different forms. Learn to pay attention to the signs and your surroundings. Your power animal will generally reflect qualities and attributes you see in yourself; this could be its demeanour, looks, traits, behaviours, actions, etc.

Learn to let your power animal come to you when it thinks the time is right or you can ask the animal to show itself to you through intentional mindfulness.
