Event description

🪁Children with disabilities miss out on the joy of play due to inaccessible toy activation methods.🚂. Switch-adapted toys can cost around $400 without the adaptive switch 💸 which is a huge financial burden for many families.

SPLAT with BESS x RehabENG has designed a workshop that is designed for individuals of all skill levels. The goal is to upskill YOU and improve the accessibility of these toys. 🙅No prior knowledge is necessary!🙅

Anyone is welcome to participate in this series! Especially those who are passionate about improving the lives of children with disabilities 👪, interested in rehabilitation or allied health 🩹 or want to learn some basic engineering skills🧠 and be part of an impactful, hands-on experience 🙌!

What’s Included:

  • All necessary tools and materials, including toy for each participant

  • Hands-on experience working with tools and materials for toy adaptation

  • Guidance from workshop facilitators

  • Participants have the opportunity to take home adapted toy or donate it

  • Plus, earn your UNSW Making Basic Soldering Badge upon completion! And don’t forget to get your general makerspace safety induction badge before coming to our workshop!

Don't miss this opportunity to make a difference and empower children through play. 💓

If we're sold out for this event, we're holding our annual "Joyful Creations: Adaptive Toy Workshop" happening on the 15th of November!
