Spoken Word Performance Skills - Overcoming Anxiety Barriers
Description
Spoken Word Performance Skills - Overcoming Anxiety Barriers - workshop organised by Katy Cawkwell as part of her role as Bard of Exeter 2026/27
A gentle, supportive workshop with a range of games and exercises to help you grow your confidence in sharing your work with an audience. Bring a story, a poem, a bit of writing, a talk, a song... that you'd like to work with in the session. This workshop is especially for those who experience high levels of anxiety and/or neurodiversity that inhibits their ability to be their best performing selves in front of an audience. It will be co-led by Katy Cawkwell, an experienced storyteller and spoken word coach and singer/songwriter, composer and producer Lorian Ross (MA music production) who brings lived experience of being a neurodiverse, solo creative and balancing anxiety with the vulnerable act of putting yourself out there, both online and in person.
I will email participants visual directions and a picture of the room and workshop leaders in advance of the session. There is opportunity to share anything you'd like us to know in advance after checkout or feel free to email katycawkwell@gmail.com or call her on 0776 246 9059.
If participants want to, there may be the opportunity to share your work at a "Bardic Blaze" celebration performance in January. See also my separate series of Mythic Inspiration workshops happening on the same day 1-4pm.
Katy Cawkwell is the current co-Bard of Exeter, host of Artemis Storytelling, a performance storyteller with 30 years experience and a warm, engaging workshop coach who loves to help others find their voice. www.katycawkwell.co.uk
