Sport Tasman: Lansdowne Hub Seminars
Event description
Event 1: Supporting Young Women's Wellbeing
29th June, 7pm
Young women & girls face a lot of challenges, particularly through their teenage years. From body changes & hormonal/menstrual cycles, to social hurdles and self confidence - there are many things that they need support in navigating. If you are a parent, teacher, coach, or supporter of a young wahine you will know what we mean!
The Lansdowne Hub series seeks to utilise the fantastic new Marlborough community facility, bringing locals together for meaningful discussion and knowledge-sharing. The central theme is all things youth wellbeing - looking holistically at aspects that benefit our young people including sport/recreation, . In the first night of the 3-part series, we'll take a closer look at girls & young women's wellbeing and how best to support this group. Perfect for parents of daughters, adult supporters, and leaders who work with girls - you will leave this event feeling inspired and armed with tools to better support & empower the young women in your world.
Key speaker: Luciana Garcia
Luciana is the Women & Girls lead at Sport NZ, and has a background in elite-level coaching, having led the NZ Synchronised Swimming team on multiple occasions.
Through her work she has supported the #itsmymove national campaign encouraging more girls to be active in their own way, whether that be TikTok dances, skateboarding, or traditional sport. She's also helped provide Young Womens Activation funding to some of the best initiatives across the country, and will have rich insights to share on what 'good' looks like when it comes to supporting girls' physical and mental wellbeing.
Following an insightful talk from Lu and a dive into the inspiring world of #itsmymove, we will have what we like to call a 'speed dating' round. More speakers from diverse perspectives will be available to hear from/discuss with in short engaging rotations, including a wellness & leadership perspective, and a co-design/youth-led events perspective.
Designed and delivered by Sport Tasman's Mahina Henry-Campbell and Lily Joiner, two young women themselves, this will be a special evening. Come along for inspiring discussion, new connections, and to learn something new. A beverage and food platters are included in your registration, with $10 of every ticket going back into the community.
For event #1, all profits will go towards Marlborough Girls College for their young women to access counselling/wellbeing services.
