Event description

Event 3: Supporting Hauora Through 'Those Teenage Years'
15th July, 7pm

As you may know, teenagers face a lot of challenges, physically, mentally, socially and we can't forget emotionally!
From body changes & hormonal/menstrual cycles, to social hurdles and self confidence - there are many things that they need support in navigating. If you are a parent, teacher, coach, or supporter of a young person, you will know what we mean!

The Lansdowne Hub series seeks to utilise the fantastic new Marlborough community facility, bringing locals together for meaningful discussion and knowledge-sharing. The central theme is all things youth wellbeing - looking holistically at aspects that benefit our young people including sport/recreation, . In the first night of the 3-part series, we'll take a closer look at youth in their 'prime' teenage years, especially those who are particularly giving the full teenager experience, and how best to support this group. Perfect for parents, adult supporters, and leaders who work with these youth- you will leave this event feeling inspired and armed with tools to better support & empower the young people in your world.

Key speaker: Gray Cornelius

Gray Cornelius, one of our very own locals is here to dive into his career starting as a teacher, all the way through to one of the Tasman Mako's Head Coaches. Gray is one of Marlborough's biggest rugby names, having started with coaching the MBC First XV all the way up to his current career.

We look forward to hearing about the challenges and successes of working with youth, and how he has seen sport benefit and enrich youth's overall wellbeing.

Following an insightful talk from Gray and a dive into the possibilities of youth sport, we will have what we like to call a 'speed dating' round. More speakers from diverse perspectives will be available to hear from/discuss with in short engaging rotations, including Balance is Better, Blenheim Police working in the youth sector, DHB perspective, and a GP.

Designed and delivered by Sport Tasman's Mahina Henry-Campbell and Lily Joiner. Come along for inspiring discussion, new connections, and to learn something new. Food platters and beverages are included in your registration, with $10 of every ticket going back into the community.

For event #3, all profits will go towards local youth mental health organisations.
