Event description

Saving the best till last, the orchestra’s final concert for 2023 is entitled Spotlight on the Double Bass.

Conducted by Paul Dean, the orchestra will perform Bottesini’s, Double Bass Concerto no.2 with the principal bassist of the Queensland Youth, Alyssa Deacon, as soloist. This concerto is one of the most performed solo works for bass and demonstrates the full range of the bass, with virtuosic playing from the soloist.

The concert will begin with audience favourite, The Hebrides Overture by Felix Mendelssohn, better known as "Fingal's Cave", which was the source of Mendelssohn's inspiration. In the second half of the concert, the orchestra will present Sibelius' Fifth Symphony, known for it's beautiful swan theme.

Please note that the previously advertised soloist, Phoebe Russell, will no longer be able to perform due to personal reasons, and Ledger's "Signal Lost" will no longer be performed.

For this concert, the orchestra will visit the Empire Theatre in Toowoomba on 29 October and Brisbane City Hall on 5 November.
