Spotlighting Booroolong Frogs
Description
The Booroolong Frog (Rhyaconastes booroolongensis) was once common in western NSW's flowing streams. Today, however, the species is listed as Endangered and survives in only a fraction of its former range, including the introduced populations in the Kootingal and Nundle areas.
Event details:
Join North West Local Land Services and frog experts to learn about the causes of the species' decline and the collaborative recovery efforts underway across North West NSW. Following the talk, take part in a guided spotlighting walk along the Cockburn River and discover what frogs you can find after dark.
You will hear about:
Decline of frog population in North West, by Phil Spark, North West Ecological Services
Booroolong frog re-population project and recovery efforts, by Michael McFadden, Taronga Conservation Society
Additional notes:
A light supper will be provided.
Please remember to bring a torch or headlamp and appropriate footwear (safety boots or gumboots) if you're joining the walk.
Connect with local ecologists, frog researchers, NRM professionals, and of course frogs.
