Are you ready to merge science and creativity with the great outdoors? Join us for our two-day workshop, "Architectural Interventions - Bivouac 2024," where participants will have the unique opportunity to construct bivouac shelters in a breathtaking natural setting.

The concept of the bivouac, or ‘bivvy,’ was ingeniously invented by Count Henry Russell-Killough, known as the 'Hermit of the Pyrenees.' He crafted makeshift, blanket-like structures using rocks and earth to provide shelter in extreme environments. Inspired by this spirit of innovation, our workshop invites you to explore sustainable architectural practices while connecting with the beauty of the landscape.

    Workshop Overview

This workshop isn’t just about construction; it’s about reimagining how we interact with nature. Participants will engage in hands-on experiences learning innovative methodologies in engineering, architecture and industrial design. You’ll learn to source both invasive and native organic materials to create improvised campsites or shelters—ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who want to learn further about sustainable design.

"Architectural Interventions - Bivouac 2024" is part of our year-round science and arts program, proudly supported by Inspiring Australia NSW, the Orange Cowra Cabonne Science Hub, and The Corridor Project. Our aim is to deepen the community’s connection to the natural environment, to co-create and develop new skills.
