Spring School Holidays Junior Gardening Club
Event description
Welcome to the first Tumut Landcare Junior Garden Club! We are inviting you to be one of our first members and sign up for this FREE 3 day event, run from 9am to 12pm on the 7th-9th of October. We have lots of fun planned- so read on if you're interested!
Parents/guardians are invited to stay, but it is not required. There will be tea and coffee facilities available if you choose to stay. This program has been developed for 8-15 year olds but your child is younger or older and you think they’d enjoy it, please reach out!
Tuesday 7th October: Plant & Create (9:00–12:00)
09:00–09:20: Welcome, introduction, and safety briefing
09:20–10:00: Tour of nursery and “What’s growing?” scavenger hunt
10:00–10:15: Snack break- snack provided
10:15–11:15: Garden bed building—children fill beds with soil, sow seeds (beans, herbs, tomato)
11:15-11:30: Worm farm fun!
11:30–12:00: Paint and decorate garden beds; make creative plant labels
Wednesday 8th October: Grow & Nurture (9:00–12:00)
09:00–09:20: Check seedlings, review growth and watering basics
09:20–10:00: Build simple trellis and “Which plants climb?” activity
10:00–10:15: Snack break - snack provided
10:15–11:15: Companion planting and simple pest-prevention talk; make bug hotels
11:15–12:00: Decorate pots, plant a seed to take home, and quick reflection journal
Thursday 9th October: Celebrate & Share (9:00–12:00)
09:00–09:20: Tool care and garden walk—inspect, clean, and sort tools
09:20–10:00: Native vs. non-native plant exploration; hands-on planting stations
10:00–10:15: Snack break - snack provided
10:15–11:00: Harvest and taste herbs/greens; nature art (rock painting or suncatchers)
11:00–12:00: Group bug hotel assembly, feedback circle, certificates, and celebration
