Winter is receding. The network is waking up.

Step out of the frost and into the forest for the Spring Equinox Dance Gathering. This is a night of transition—honoring the balance of light and dark through ritual, high-energy movement, and deep vibrational rest.

Whether you come as a group of frolicking forest friends, or as a lone tree looking to plug into the mycelium network, you are part of the grove.

THE EXPERIENCE:

Cacao Tasting & Opening Candlelight Ritual: We begin the night together with a heart-opening cacao tasting (included with your ticket) and an opening ritual to honor the equinox and set our spring intentions. with Dorothy Morganna
Opening Movement workshop & short ritual with Maytrelli Diaz (opening DJ set)
Ecstatic Dance (Sheena Medicina): Shed your winter skin. Sheena Medicina brings 2 hours of deep, rhythmic music designed for pure, uninhibited movement and free flow. Solo, partner dancing, groups, it's up to you. Ecstatic dance is all about being your own weird self whether you want to dance with anyone or not.
Closing Sound Bath (Suntaya Song): We’ll integrate the energy and ground back into the earth with a restorative sound journey.

THE FOREST ETIQUETTE (Guidelines for the Grove):
To keep the energy intentional and the floor sacred, we follow these simple agreements:

Move in Silence: The dance floor is a talk-free zone unless asking consent to dance with someone. If you have words to share, please use the social spaces, cacao/elixir lounge area, or around the perimeter or head downstairs to the Gallery.
Barefoot: No shoes on the dance floor. Connect directly with the "roots." Clothing required (shirts on please for all) per contact improv etiquette.
Presence over Performance: No alcohol or drugs.
Consent is Key: Respect personal space and wait for a clear "yes" (verbal or non-verbal) before dancing with others. [More about consent from our friends at Bloom Dance - coming up Feb 28 & March 28 at Om Culture! https://www.seattleecstatica.com/consent ]

DRESS CODE / COSTUME IDEAS:
Forest Prom / Nature Magic. Optional but fun!
Come as a shimmering spirit, a mossy ancient, a blooming wildflower, or a dapper woodland creature. Costumes or subtle nature vibe clothing highly encouraged!

Ecstatic dance is a free-form, unchoreographed movement practice where participants dance intuitively to music, aiming for a meditative or "ecstatic" state. It focuses on self-expression, embodiment, and a non-judgmental atmosphere without alcohol or talking. The name comes from the Greek term ekstasis (or ex-stasis), meaning "standing outside oneself," signifying a shift in consciousness.

Key Details About Ecstatic Dance

The Experience: It is a sober, judgment-free space designed to let the body lead, moving from slow tempos to high-energy peaks and back down.
Origins of the Name: It stems from the Greek word for standing outside of oneself, implying a state of euphoria, transcendence, or trance induced by movement.
Roots and Evolution: While rooted in ancient shamanic and tribal rituals, modern ecstatic dance was popularized in the 1970s by Gabrielle Roth (5Rhythms) and later solidified as a "conscious dance" movement on the Big Island of Hawaii around 2000.
Key Principles: Participants, often called "dancers," are encouraged to dance alone or with others, focusing on how the movement feels rather than how it looks.
Modern Context: It is frequently associated with yoga, wellness festivals, and conscious communities, acting as both a spiritual practice and a physical workout.
