Squashed

An empty squash court has a very particular echo.

Built for a sport once among the nation's most loved games, the walls of the Essendon courts hold the sounds of another era. Join Kaylie Melville (vibraphone), Marshall McGuire (harp), Maria Moles (drum kit) and Rohan Dasika (bass) - as they serve and volley, drive and boast, flam and strike, bow and pluck; reimagining a forgotten sport into a tournament for percussion and strings.

Squashed is the first in a series of new site-specific art labs by Speak Percussion. Working intensively, onsite, over a condensed time period, each iteration invites a new team of collaborators to respond to place, connect with community, and expand the practice of percussion.

Please note: this work takes place in an unconventional venue. From time to time during the performance, audiences will move between rooms. The narrowest doorway is 66cm. Please dress warmly. Contact jasmin@speakpercussion.com if you have any questions about accessibility.
