Additional Information : Parking is available onsite. There is a fridge available, attendees can utilise it to store food items.

Event Overview:
Safe manual handling techniques are essential for healthcare and community workers to prevent injuries and maintain a safe workplace. Delivered by Set2Learn for the Home Care Workforce Support Program, this non-accredited training guides planning and executing manual handling tasks effectively to reduce the risk of injury to self and the client while providing care and support in the community.
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be issued with a Certificate of Completion and can add this to their Care Career Passport.
In this workshop, participants have the opportunity to learn things such as:
- An introduction to Manual Handling
- Policies and guidelines - WHS policy
- Manual Handling techniques - Reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injury
- Moving & handling risk assessment principles
- Spinal awareness & body posture
- Recognition & performance of good handling practice
- Correct use of equipment
- Lifting safely
- Manual Handling injuries
- Safe transfer of clients - use of walk belts and chair to bed transfer, full sling hoist transfer, slide sheets.
In line with encouraging safer handling of people, by the end of the session participants will be able to:
- Identify best practices for client care ergonomics
- Identify hazards in client care settings
- Assess solutions for safe client handling & movements
- Formulate strategies for reducing risk to caregivers
Each learner is observed in the following practical skills:
- use of walk belts and chair-to-bed transfer,
- full sling hoist transfer
- slide sheets
IMPORTANT note: Participants attending are required to wear enclosed shoes, eg joggers, not ballet flats or thongs.
