Gounod: St. Cecilia Mass
Event description
The St. Cecilia Mass was written by Charles Gounod in homage to the patron saint of music. Written in 1855 and officially titled as Messe solennelle en l’honneur de Sainte-Cécilem, this exhilarating work is far from solemn.
Cantoris is excited to present the St. Cecilia Mass in Act 1 and C.P.E. Bach's energetic Magnificat in Act 2, for the choir's first concert of 2024.
The Choir will be joined by four soloists; Caroline Burchell (soprano), Helene Page (alto), Herbert Zielinski (tenor), Mark Bobb (bass). We will also be supported by a string ensemble from The Queen’s Closet Musicians, and Jonathan Berkahn on piano as well as the harpsichord.
Please join us on Saturday 18 May, 7.30pm at St Peter's on Willis.
