St Paul's College Choir in Concert - St Paul's College
Event description
St Paul's College Chapel Choir presents a concert featuring significant choral anthems, by Howells, Wood and Gardiner, as well as new Australian sacred compositions and commissions by Blomfield, Varga and Goodwin.
St Paul's College within the University of Sydney is Australia’s first residential College and its Chapel Choir is one of Australia’s most exciting young choirs. Modelled after the UK Collegiate system, the choir consists of 30 choristers and four Lay Clerks, many of whom live residentially at the College, and others who study at the University of Sydney. The Choir sings Evensong every Tuesday at 5:15pm during the semester to which members of the public are welcome to attend.
Regarded for its "faultless performances” (CanberraCityNews) and Sydney’s "top-notch choir" (Australian Music Trust), the Chapel Choir also presents large-scale concerts and operas most recently including Purcell’s ‘The Fairy Queen’, Purcell’s 'Dido & Aeneas' with Sally-Anne Russell and Andrew Goodwin, an acclaimed regional tour to the Southern Tablelands, Buxtehude’s ‘Jesu Membra Nostri’, Caroline Shaw’s ‘To the hands’ and Fauré’s Requiem.
The Choir regularly perform works by Australian composers as well as new commissions, most recently works by Andrew Goodwin, Lucy Blomfield, David Drury, Alice Chance and Joseph Twist.
