WHAT WILL YOU LEARN:?

You will learn how to assist adults who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.

The 12-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid course is for any interested adult.

You will learn how to assist an adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan. This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER:

You will learn about the signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems in adults, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

Developing Mental Health Problems covered:

• Depression and Anxiety;
• Psychosis; &
• Substance Use Problems

Mental Health Crisis Situations covered:

• Suicidal thoughts and behaviours;
• Non-suicidal self-injury (deliberate self-harm);
• Panic Attacks;
• Traumatic Events;
• Severe Effects of Drug and Alcohol Abuse; &
• Aggressive Behaviours

WHAT WILL YOU NEED TO BRING WITH YOU?

A note book, a couple of pens and a willingness to learn for the two days.

DURATION: 9:00AM – 4:30PM (Both Days)

Please arrive at 8:45AM so that the training can commence promptly at 9AM.

The MHFA Action Plan for substance use problems

From January 2022, it is an MHFA requirement for all participants who are attending Face to Face Courses in 2022, are required to be fully vaccinated.

Please note that If you are unable to prove that you are fully vaccinated (or are exempt), you will NOT be permitted to attend the course and there will be no reschedules nor will refunds be granted.

Please register and pay with Damien directly. A tax invoice and proof of payment will be provided to you if in the event you may be able to claim on your tax. (Consult with your accountant or financial advisor if this applies to your situation).

Your Full Attendance Is Required on BOTH Days in order to attain your accreditation

Each participant will receive their very own Standard Mental Health First Aid Manual to keep.

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ.

From Jan 2022, it is an MHFA requirement for all participants attending Instructor Training face to face Courses in 2022 to be fully vaccinated.

Community members who remain unvaccinated by choice or choose not to disclose their status prior to attending an MHFA course are quite welcome to attend a Blended Online MHFA course which I can provide you information on where to find until I make this an available option.

MHFA is an evidence-based organisation and have continued to follow and adhere to public health directives at all times throughout the pandemic.

Taking all available measures to protect the health and wellbeing of course participants, Instructors and Trainers in the delivery of face-to-face courses (and all courses) is paramount. With the COVID-19 vaccine now being readily available in all States and Territories, all Instructors providing face-to-face MHFA courses in 2022 will be required to be fully vaccinated.

The principle of informed choice will also extend to all future MHFA course participants. Please provide evidence of vaccination upon entry to your course and also prior to coming. If you cannot prove vaccination before and on Day 1 of the course, you will turned away, forfeit your place and your fee. As per our terms of business, refunds will not be applicable.

The venue of Sector Connect is a COVID-19 Safe Business and will be adhering to Dept. of Health advisory on public courses. Rest assured that the venue and Focused Mental Education take yours and the health of all people very seriously.

Coffee and tea making facilities will be available in room. The venue is also close to public transport such as buses, trains and free parking within and around the venue premises.

Catering for Lunch time will also be provided at no additional costing. If there are any dietary requirements please advise Damien at the time of booking.

Cancellation Policy:

• Focused Mental Education is happy to offer a rescheduled date and time to undertake your desired course/workshop in the event that the initial course date and time is not suitable. This option will be made available a maximum of three (3) times, of which the consumer determines each rescheduled date and time. After this stage Focused Mental Education will retain any payments made by the consumer to cover operational business costs;

• Cancellation requests which are more than thirty (30+) calendar days before the agreed upon date and time of the course or workshop will have 75% of total payments made to Focused Mental Education refunded to the consumer. Focused Mental Education will retain 25% of the total payments made to cover operational business costs;

• Cancellation requests which are equal to or less than thirty (=<30) calendar days before the agreed upon date and time of the course or workshop will have 50% of total payments made to Focused Mental Education refunded to the consumer. Focused Mental Education will retain 50% of the total payments made to cover operational business costs;

• Cancellation requests which are equal to or less than fourteen (=<14) calendar days before the agreed upon date and time of the course or workshop will have 25% of total payments made to Focused Mental Education refunded to the consumer. Focused Mental Education will retain 75% of the total payments made to cover operational business costs;

• Cancellation requests which are equal to or less than seven (=<7) calendar days before the agreed upon date and time of the course or workshop will have none of total payments made to Focused Mental Education refunded to the consumer. Focused Mental Education will retain 100% of the total payments made to cover operational business costs; and

• All other circumstances remain at the discretion of Focused Mental Education.
