What is Standard MHFA?
Standard MHFA teaches PRACTICAL and EVIDENCED BASED strategies to support a person experiencing a mental health problem, worsening of a problem or a crisis.
Every Australian should do this course.
The great news is that effective early strategies can greatly reduce the chances of a mental health problem effecting relationships, educational opportunity and general well-being or contributing to other social problems. There has been considerable research done around the effectiveness of this training. Many high profile people have advocated for this course, including POTUS Barack Obama and Michelle Obama advocated for this course to address mental health issues in American Schools. MHFA was developed in Australia, but is now taught in over 25 countries worldwide.
Modules covered include: Australian Mental Health Data, Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Substance Use, Suicide Prevention, Responses to Trauma, Psychosis, Aggressive Behaviour and Deliberate Self Injury.

Our Instructor
Mark Smith is a Principal Master MHFA Instructor.
Mark's CV includes High School Deputy Principal, Special Education Teacher Medical Assistant, Aged Care Assistant and a broad range of community support roles. Mark is approachable, knowledgeable and utilises humour and significant personal narratives to engage participants in the course material.
Mark works for MHFA International as a consultant trainer of MHFA Instructors. Mark's deep insights into adolescents, mental health and education combine to provide participants with a unique experience in this training.
