Event description

The Belle Canto Women's Choir annual concert is a highlight for this community choir that's developing a reputation for its gorgeous sound and innovative repertoire. Musical Director Clare Martin has curated a selection of choral pieces designed to soothe the soul and lift the spirits. The worries of the world will wash away with the dreamlike Seal Lullaby, by Eric Whitacre and Benjamin Britten's Balulalow, as the programme sweeps from the Slumber Song Dormite Begl' occhi from the Baroque opera Orfeo to Billy Joel's Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel). David Hamilton's I know Moon Rise takes us skyward to the Child with the Starry Crayon by Eleanor Daley. Then the pace picks up with a selection of passionate gospel spirituals including Wade in the Water, Climb Up, Ye Children, Climb and the modern pop hit, Rise Up made famous by Andra Day. The accompanist is Megan Quatermass and completing the programme is guest solo harpist Ingrid Bauer who is Principal Harp with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. This a concert not to be missed!
