Starting Out: Teaching Young Voices - Sunday 25 Feb 11am-1pm at Green Square Music Room (Green Square Library) SYDNEY

This event is aimed at mentoring singing teachers with less than 5 years teaching experience and building an inclusive community of early career singing teachers.

Come join our Early Career Teaching Workshop where we will be discussing how to begin teaching singing to children, adolescents, and young adults. Topics will include:

• Basic anatomy and growth of young voices male & female
• Performance anxiety strategies
• Repertoire and Warm up ideas

The workshop will be guided by Young Voice teaching specialists, Debbie Grace and Naomi Lewandoski.

PDF’s of all information on the day will be shared digitally with participants – we recommend bringing a laptop, iPad, tablet or notebook.

This is an in-person session on Sunday 25 Feb 11am-1pm at Green Square Music Room (Green Square Library). We recommend you attend the event in person to allow for participation and real time experience.

This event will give participants a basic understanding of teaching young voices and as follow on attendees will be given a DISCOUNT to attend the ANATS NSW upcoming workshop - Tools and Techniques for Young Singers – Navigating Voice Change  which will be held  on 17 March 

ANATS

The Australian National Association of the Teachers of Singing Ltd (ANATS) provides support to its members and to the general community by hosting professional development events at a national, state and local level, providing bursary support and promoting research.

NAOMI LEWANDOSKI

Naomi is an award-winning singer, teacher, vocal coach, adjudicator, conductor, and workshop presenter with over 25 years of national and international industry experience. She currently teaches from her home studio @northsidevoicestudio alongside teaching at Ravenswood School for Girls and Arden Anglican School in Sydney with many of her students being selected for HSC Encore performances. Naomi teaches voice across all styles with a particular interest in working with Child, Adolescent and Young Adult Voice. Her studios are a creative and welcoming space for students to explore, discover and build their unique voices. Naomi holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music – Griffith University and has been awarded a Queensland Arts Council Grant, The Tait Memorial Scholarship, A Goethe Institut Award & The Ian Potter Foundation Grant. She has adjudicated for the International Grand Music Festival in Indonesia and has given masterclasses at various schools in performance techniques. Naomi is a Registered Accredited Vocal Teacher with VocalProcess™ led by UK leading voice experts Dr Gillyanne Kayes and Jeremy Fisher. Naomi is also trained in Somatic Voicework™ and Kodály Music Institute of Australia. Career highlights include Maria in West Side Story, Gianetta in The Gondoliers and Ensemble roles with Opera Queensland & Grange Park Opera UK - La Boheme, Carmen, La Traviata, Tosca, Die Fledermaus, Faust, L’elisir d’amore, Anything Goes, Grease, Joseph & his Technicolour Dreamcoat. As testament to her standing in the industry, Naomi was recently appointed NSW Secretary of the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS).

DEBORAH GRACE

Deborah Grace has been a singing teacher for over 20 years, specialising in young voice and particularly in young female voice. She has a large vocal studio at Kambala Girls School, as well as teaching privately in her home studio. She also teaches classroom music and conducts a choir specialising in contemporary music at Kambala. Deborah has performed as a soloist at La Mama Theatre in Melbourne, with University Choral Societies and operatic groups, and as a Cantor at the Leo Baeck Centre in Kew, Melbourne. She has a BMus (Hons) from UNSW, Grad DipEd from University of Melbourne, a GradDipOp from VCA and recently completed her MRes (Masters of Research) through Macquarie University with Professor Diane Hughes, on “The Approaches of Singing Teachers to New and Unfamiliar Repertoire”.

Deborah been a member of ANATS since 2003 and joined the NSW committee in 2013. She presented a paper on her MRes research at the ANATS National Conference in 2021 and has also presented a number of workshops for ANATS NSW since 2017. She was the Secretary on the NSW committee from 2014 to 2023 and received a Chapter Certificate award recognising her service to ANATS NSW. Deborah is currently the Secretary on the ANATS National Council.
