    Event description

Are you involved in the operation of an Early Childhood Education (ECE) centre? Understanding and complying with licensing requirements and associated regulations is crucial to ensure a safe, high-quality learning environment for young children and the adults who work for you. However, ECC frequently sees unexpected issues leading to licence suspensions and cancellations. Many of those negative outcomes may have been avoided, with a better approach.

In this informative and interactive workshop, we will delve into key examples of licence interventions and how skilled operators can give themselves the best chance to have a full licence granted, or avoid being placed on a provisional or suspended licence.

This is not going to be a general overview of the regulations – this workshop is for people who want to sharpen up their capabilities in regard to dealing with regulators. Skills learnt are transferrable to any regulatory issue. Workshop participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of what to do with issues relating to an existing ECE licence, and how to resolve licensing issues.

      Key topics of the workshop:

      • Understanding the regulators’ motivations and what they will try to achieve through their licensing powers. Any question or interaction between your service and Ministry of Education officials gives rise to potential licensing issues.
      • What are the options available if you don’t think it’s fair when the Ministry of Education places your service on a provisional or suspended licence?
      • The process of challenging licensing decisions, including how to seek a clarification, complain, or legally challenge a decision, what evidence is required, and the timelines and costs involved.
      • Real-life case studies and engage in practical exercises to enhance your problem-solving skills when it comes to licensing issues.
      • Explore strategies for ongoing compliance with licensing requirements and for proactively addressing potential issues to prevent issues in the first place.

This workshop is suited to individuals engaged or employed in ECE services including centre managers, directors, and owners and trustees who are present in running the business/organisation. The regulations do not differ for community based providers and private providers – this workshop is equally suitable for both types.

Afternoon tea will be provided. Registrants will be asked to submit their dietary requirements during the registration process.
