Event description

Join us for a taste of inquiry-based STEM following the ECA National Conference! If you're keen to learn more about how to create age-appropriate STEM learning experiences for the children in your service or classroom and build your portfolio of STEM provocations, this is a great introduction to what Little Scientists has to offer.

This STEM Taster is a one hour event to give you a taste of the ten STEM professional development workshop topics Little Scientists has to offer and will introduce our educational approach, including the inquiry-based learning cycle, metacognition, and co-construction. This is a casual and playful opportunity to learn more about the STEM professional development opportunities available to you or your staff, and also a chance for you to network with other like-minded educators in a friendly and warm environment.

As this is a free STEM Taster Workshop, please arrive early in order to ensure you don’t miss out — the venue has a capacity of 20 participants.

If you're new to Little Scientists, we're passionate about providing early childhood educators with inquiry-based STEM professional development. We do this through a range of in-person, in-service, and online professional development workshops across 10+ exciting, pedagogy-based STEM topics. Our goal is to empower educators to build the skills and confidence to create joyful STEM experiences for young children in every corner of the country and foster curiosity, critical thinking, and resilience in the next generations.

We are proudly not-for-profit and supported by the Australian Government, with our workshops aligned with the National Quality Framework, the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, and the Early Years Learning Framework.

Our 3.5 hour STEM workshops provide you with the following learning outcomes through the specific lens of one of our 10 STEM topics, for example:

  • Understand the important role of inquiry-based learning and co-construction in early education.
  • Uncover how early education can foster children’s metacognitive development.
  • Learn how communication, reflection, and questioning can enhance children’s ability to think about their own learning.
  • Exchange ideas and experiences with other like-minded educators and reflect on your current practice.
  • Receive comprehensive topic-specific materials with educational STEM ideas and information about inquiry-based practices.
  • The confidence to tap into, guide, and focus children’s natural interests and abilities.
  • The confidence to pass on your new knowledge and skills to your colleagues and to become a STEM champion in your service.
