Event description

Join us on Friday 17th December from 5 - 6.30 pm for the showcase of The Social Outfit's STEP INTO PARADISE Tote Bags!

Earlier this year, we partnered with MAAS - The Powerhouse Museum to give a second life to the huge nylon backdrops from the iconic Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson 'Step into Paradise' exhibition that took place in 2019.

This set the stage for our latest Earn & Learn project. Over the year, The Social Outfit engaged 14 women from refugee & new migrant backgrounds to manufacture maxi tote bags using the wonderful and awe-inspiring art that the exhibition was cast against.

The participants of the Earn & Learn program were taught how to prepare, cut and sew the maxi tote bags. The best part is, they were paid to learn these skills and got the opportunity to apply their newly learned skills directly to the production of these beautiful tote bags!

Now that fabric has been saved from landfill, and 14 new participants have been provided with training and employment in the process, we are bringing together our community to celebrate.

Join us and the brand new Earn & Learn graduates in this celebration!

Artists:  Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson

Partner: MAAS - Powerhouse Museum

PLEASE NOTE: This is a free event with limited numbers. We require booking in order to keep our event Covid-safe. If you book and later find out you can no longer make it, please email us to release your ticket so someone else can join.
