STEP NSW Evening Seminar | Wednesday 17 September 2025
Event description
STEP NSW Branch invites you to a seminar with Louise McBride, Member of the Administrative Review Tribunal & Noel Yeates, Yeates & Co Advisory.
Topic: Intergenerational Wealth Transfer - Ruling from the grave
We are at the start of one of the greatest transfers of wealth in history, outside of state intervention, in terms of scale and breadth. This presents unique challenges for advisors and practitioners engaged in helping people successfully manage the transfer of their wealth and death assets.
Yeates & Co estimates the magnitude of intergenerational wealth transfer at $5 trillion for the period 2030-2050 impacting approximately eight million beneficiaries or thirty per cent of the population directly or indirectly.
Louise and Noel will discuss the magnitude, scale and challenges that will face the STEP practitioners including:
Testamentary Freedom – How real is it today?
The changing dynamics of Family and the Court’s role in Family Provisions Claims
What should prudent advisors and practitioners do to ensure the testator’s wishes are carried out?
Is now time for a codified system of inheritance – a reversion to Roman Law rather than the Common law?
Are Trusts the answer?
Given the magnitude of the Honey Pot is Death Duty or Inheritance Tax inevitable and should advisers and practitioners take that into consideration when drafting a will or trust
The presentation will look at the practical challenges advisors and practitioners will face and what the Courts can do to cope with the anticipated deluge of Family Provisions Claims.
