    Event description

STEP Victoria-Tasmania Members are invited to attend the STEP Victoria-Tasmania Annual General Meeting for 2024. The AGM will be followed by a seminar presented by Antonella Terranova.

    Seminar Topic: Legal Costs

In December 2022, the Supreme Court of Victoria and the County Court of Victoria published a Consultation Paper containing a draft proposal for a time-based costing regime, which would replace the Scale of Costs as a basis for party/party costs recovery in Victoria. On 30 November 2023, the Supreme Court’s Council of Judges endorsing a number of items in principle and issued a Notice to the Profession dated 1 December 2023.

In principle, a new Scale has been endorsed and will be incorporated within Appendix A of the Supreme Court Rules with the commencement date of the new Scale to be 1 January 2025. There will be further consultation on the question of GST and moving to actual time (on a per minute basis). This presentation will focus on the changes, getting ready to start implanting the new Scale and also discuss caselaw updates and costs generally.
