STEP Victoria - Tasmania Branch invites you to a panel session with Dr Karen Bird, Alina El-Jawhari and Lachlan Einsiedel, kindly hosted by estateXchange.

Topic: Capacity to Completion: Navigating Capacity in Estate Planning and Administration

From a client’s initial testamentary instructions to the final administration of their estate, issues of capacity remain a defining thread. This multidisciplinary session brings together medical and legal expertise to examine how capacity is assessed, documented, and managed across estate planning, guardianship, and probate matters.

Dr Karen Bird will provide clinical insights into the assessment of capacity and the management of clients presenting with cognitive impairment. Mr Lachlan Einsiedel of Suzanne Lyttleton Lawyers will address the legal dimensions of capacity within guardianship matters, while Ms Alina El-Jawhari will explore contested probate proceedings and the impact of early assessment and documentation on litigation outcomes.

Together, the panel will equip practitioners with practical strategies for recognising, recording, and resolving capacity concerns.
