The seminar will cover:

A discussion of recent developments affecting cross-border family groups and trust structures, with a focus on section 99B of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936 and related developments.

About the speakers:

Frank Hinoporos heads up Hall & Wilcox’s Taxation practice.

Frank is a leading Australian tax expert with extensive experience advising clients on direct taxes, international structuring and taxation, business transactions, corporate restructuring and taxation disputes, from pre-audit stage to litigation. His clients include high-net worth individuals and families, family offices, privately owned businesses and a broad network of accounting and other professional referrers, in Australia and internationally.

Frank also leads Hall & Wilcox’s Charities, Not-for Profit & Philanthropy practice. He regularly advises high-wealth individuals and family groups on private philanthropy and is a leading expert in Australia’s Private Ancillary Fund (PAF) regime. Frank has established a large number of PAFs which have facilitated philanthropic giving of over $400m.

Frank is a director of two charities, the Findex Community Fund, a public ancillary fund, and Cool Australia Education, an education focused charity. He has previously been involved with other charities as a director and was a past Vice-President of European Business.

Frank is a State Councillor of the Tax Institute of Australia and the Chair of the Tax Institute of Australia’s Member Engagement Committee. Frank is an Associate member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP), a Fellow of Governance Australia, a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and a Chartered Tax Adviser of The Tax Institute.

Frank is ranked in Chambers and Partners High Net Worth 2023 for Family Offices & Funds Restructuring in Australia. Frank has been recognised in Doyles’ Guide to the Legal Profession every year since 2016 and by Best Lawyers Australia since 2015.

George Psarrakos is a tax partner at Mutual Trust, Australia’s largest multi-family office. 

He advises both domestic and international wealthy families, businesses and private clients on the tax and commercial implications of their strategic, operational and investment decisions. This includes advising on complex tax issues, managing ATO audits, transaction support for significant business milestones and life-changing events. 

He specialises in effective strategies for protecting and transferring wealth across borders and across family generations.
