    How to Handle Heat at your Table (with a topic like Gendered Violence); Using the Fundamentals like oven gloves to create safety

    Thurs 20 June

    6:50 pm for 7:00 pm sharp to 8:30 pm AEST

    There’s a lot being said right now about gendered violence, and you might be feeling moved to share something about this at your Table.  But judging by the number of Tables asking the Kitchen for guidance on this, men are concerned that their share could be fraught with risks to their Table of the conversation getting heated, and maybe getting out of hand.

    If you want to share at your Table about a potentially divisive and triggering topic (such as family or other violence), how can your Table help to handle that heat so it can remain a safe, respectful and real place... and be stronger for it?

    At Healthy Tables,sharing from the Heart can lead to difficult conversations which require extra care and practice in using the Fundamentals.  These become like oven gloves when you’re holding something hot.

    At this session for men from all Tables, we'll help you with;

    • How to create safety before we dive in
    • How to stay with your feelings, and not stray into your views? (Not blaming others and owning our emotions and triggers)
    • How to avoid the conversation becoming political, or misogynistic, or divisive in other ways.
    • How to acknowledge and serve those who are living with triggers or trauma at the Table?
    • What to do if other men then share diverse experiences including feeling shame, guilt or responsibility?

    We'll use practical examples of where things can go wrong, how the Fundamentals can be used to support safe sharing, and invite you to share your experiences in a couple of breakout groups with men from other Tables.

    By the end of this session we hope you'll feel ready to support yourself and your Table to share  fully from the heart, with an attitude of care,and respect for all, which can deepen the trust you hold in each other..

    The session is being co-designed with a group of men from Tables who reached out to us with questions about how to share about a topic like gendered violence at their Table.This event is for men who sit at Tables only.
