Join production designer and sustainability legend, Adele Cattenazzi, in this introductory Spark Session on Costume and Set Design!

A costume designer is responsible for the creation and sourcing of costumes for use in performance. Some of their tasks include:

Designing costumes based on the desired look as articulated by a director’s vision
Working within a budget to source, purchase or create costumes
Attending rehearsals to ensure that costumes are functional and achieve desired outcome

A set designer designs and creates a set for use in a performance. Some of their tasks include:

Working with the director and designers to ensure the set meets desired needs of a project, and achieves director’s vision
Designing a set to meet the constraints and requirements of a performance space
Sourcing and creating set pieces including furniture pieces and décor in line with safety requirements

In this 2-hour Spark Session, you’ll learn about Adele’s original framework for ‘how to design’, with an emphasis on sustainable designing practices, working within a director’s vision, and creative problem solving.

About Adele

Adele Cattenazzi is a production designer with a passion for sustainable design without compromise. Recently graduated from a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre (Monash University, 2021), she was deeply involved in Monash Uni Student Theatre (MUST) throughout her degree.

Previous design work includes Kill Climate Deniers (MUST 2022), Wood Wide Web (Barking Spider Visual Theatre 2021-2022), Cosi (CGTC 2021), Indiana Jo Show (MUST 2021), and House Sisters (Monash University 2019) as well as costume and set design secondments on My Dearworthy Darling (The Rabble/Malthouse Theatre 2019) and Fleur Kilpatrick’s Whale (Northcote Town Hall 2019). She also worked on production design as Intern to the Technical Manager for MUST (2020-2021). Adele is currently working on costume and set design for new play Ramona Glasgow (Shrew Loose Productions/Gasworks), premiering in September this year.
