Still & Savour - A midwinter Evening at Ondeen
Description
Some evenings ask nothing of you except to arrive.
This June, Roaming Zen with Jen and Ondeen come together for one Friday night in the Adelaide Hills. An evening built for the body, the senses, and the table.
We begin on the mat. Jen guides an hour of mindful movement, starting with a gentle rhythmic shaking loose of everything the week has layered into your body, before transitioning into a slow, candlelit yin practice.
Yin yoga works with the deeper layers of the body. The connective tissue, the joints, the places where we tend to hold what we haven't yet put down. It is unhurried by design, and profoundly settling.
The practice draws on the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine, an ancient system that maps the body's energy through pathways called meridians, through which our vitality flows. In TCM, winter is governed by the Water element, associated with the Kidney and Bladder meridians. These are the channels linked to our deepest reserves, our capacity for rest, and the quiet stillness that lives beneath the busyness. When we move with the season rather than against it, the body responds in kind. You'll leave the mat feeling genuinely different.
Then we move to the table.
Chef Adam Bowden whose culinary lineage runs through The Ritz London and Michelin-starred kitchens in Europe. He brings his quietly brilliant, produce-driven craft to a seasonal winter menu designed for this exact night. Unhurried. Nourishing. Grounded in the Adelaide Hills and what this particular moment of the year has to offer.
Open fires. Four small-batch winemakers pouring from the Ondeen cellar door. The hills going dark and quiet outside.
This is an evening that begins in the body and ends at the table. Both halves are the practice.
