About the Class:

Still life painting is an excellent tool for learning the creative thinking process and how to deal with all different aspects of composition. If one's ambition is to grow as an artist, I recommend using oil paints. But students can use any media they want. Each class will have one or two still lifes arranged. Instruction will focus on how to think about interpreting the subjects, mark by mark. The instructor work with students on interpreting what is true in nature or experimenting with their own styles of interpretation, as they wish. This class is for painters of all skill levels.

FROM THE INSTRUCTOR: "I will teach a clear and simple way of thinking about the reason an artist makes each mark in a painting. Once we internalize a disciplined way of thinking as an artist, we can do anything as a creative including making the most of our own idiosyncratic vision. With this discipline an artist will no longer get stuck or feel overwhelmed or confused. Still lifes are a simple and excellent way to develop a discipline of thinking as an artist. This class will focus on the thinking and less on the final outcomes of the paintings. The still lifes will be kept simple so we can focus on foundational thought processes rather than a lot of details."
