Local author, Tanya Scott, is soon to publish her debut novel 'Stillwater', and to celebrate we will be hosting an event with her and Laura McCluskey (The Wolf Tree).

A tense, atmospheric thriller Stillwater explores trauma, family dysfunction, and psychological distress with the compassion and insight of someone who has spent a career sitting with life’s messiness, resilience, and absurdity.

After years away, Luke Harris is back in his hometown of Melbourne and determined to build a quiet life — steady job, a house of his own and a loyal dog. But Luke is a man with a past. Luke’s life before was anything but peaceful and his skills ran to the dark side. His past is shaped by the criminal underworld he once escaped — and it’s all about to catch up with him. When Luke’s path crosses with Gus Alberici – the brutal criminal he worked for as a teenager – he's dragged reluctantly back to his past. Luke's estranged father has vanished, along with a chunk of Gus's cash. As his past and present collide, can Luke keep his long-held secrets? He walked away once. Walking away again might get him killed.

Tanya Scott is a writer, doctor and medical educator. With years of experience working in mental health care, she has learned more from her patients than from any textbook. Tanya is an accomplished survivor of near misses, which include escaping an engineering degree out of high school, crashing a car with a huntsman on her lap and getting caught in a rip off the coast of Cocos Island. She also survived medical training with her sense of humour intact. She is based on Wadawurrung Country, on the Victorian Surf Coast, with her family and pets. When not writing, she can be found with her head in a book or braving the wind at the beach. Stillwater is her first novel.

Laura is also co-founder of Three Fates Theatre Company, and has performed across theatre, film, and television. The Wolf Tree is her debut novel. She lives in Naarm/Melbourne.
