What’s it all about?

This month's edition of Stitch & Fix focuses on couching. "Couching?" I hear you question. Yes, couching! Couching stitches are a unique sewing method for adding reinforcement and structure to fabric and garments.

This style of stitch provides structure to a garment where there may be a hole starting and the area is wearing thin. Or if you want to cover a hole and use a patch underneath it without showing the patch.

In an effort towards sustainable fashion and adding extra life to our garments - reusing, repurposing, mending and repairing - Stitch & Fix is a monthly night to fix up some fashion favourites using different techniques.

Materials and instruction provided, just bring along a garment to mend or practice with our fabric scraps.

What will we cover?

In this Couching edition of Stitch & Fix, bring along a sewing project or garment in need of reinforcing and access the tools, materials and know-how to set you up to complete your project.

Your teacher Robyn Bunting is an experienced Film and TV costume maker, has some good stories and loves a challenge. She'll help you identify sewing and mending methods and materials to progress your project.

Tools and materials will be available, but bring along a project or garment. Otherwise, feel free to practice with scrap fabrics in class.

Who will be teaching?

Robyn Bunting is a reuse, repurpose and remake enthusiast who is the owner of : The Nicholas Building called ‘Harold and Maude‘ on level 2 of the Nicholas Building that focuses on recycling, repurposing and remaking. She has spent 35 years working in Theatre, film and television industry making all sorts of things using sewing technique of all types.
