Stitch Hoop Artwork

Hand stitch an expressive hoop artwork piece with textile artist Leanne Gardner.

This is a great way to slow down and connect your head, heart and hands.

Utilising a small wooden embroidery hoop, fabric scraps and thread you will create a hand stitched piece of textile art which can be hung on a wall.

Leanne will take you through the process of attaching your fabric with a variety of simple decorative stitches. No experience needed because you will learn how to sew basic stitches as well as some decorative hand stitches

Relax and enjoy the process of discovering your own creativity and the joy of creating something unique.

You will leave with your own stitched Hoop Art either completed or with the knowledge to take home and finish.

About the artist

Leanne is a mixed‑media artist who embraces the freedom and flexibility that an intuitive, materials‑led practice offers. Predominantly self‑taught, she has spent the past seven years completing residential workshops with artists from around the world. These experiences have given her a broad and adaptable skill set, which she weaves into her work.

Drawn to working small and with repurposed materials, Leanne gravitates toward textiles, fibre, paper, and stitch. Her colour palette often returns to familiar, grounding tones, yet her pieces remain diverse as she continually explores new mediums, processes, and ideas. Sustainability, resourcefulness, and the quiet beauty of the handmade sit at the heart of her practice.

Leanne’s work continues to evolve through experimentation, community engagement, and a deep commitment to encouraging creativity in others. Supporting people of all skill levels to explore their own artistic voice is one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.

What you need to know

• We provide all materials and equipment, however you are welcome to bring any favourite small fabric scraps, and embroidery threads to use.

• Suitable for participants at any skill level and who are 15 years and older

• Wear suitable art friendly clothing

• Bring your own snacks / lunch. We provide tea and coffee.

• If your circumstances change and you can no longer attend this workshop, please email nvouis@ahc.sa.gov.au before 5pm, Thursday 4 March 2027. After this time and date, we cannot issue refunds.
