Workshop #1: Picnic Cutlery Carrier: Wednesday 13th January, 1-3pm

Ideal for summer picnics, and for keeping in your backpack or handbag any time of year! Join Alice McKenzie for a great beginners sewing machine workshop to make these simple and practical carriers for all your picnic and take-away dining needs.

Workshop #2: Wool Felting: Thursday 14th January, 1-3pm

Join Vivien Dwyer for an introduction to the hows and whys of felting to create small panels which can be used whole, cut to make other pieces and strengthened to create broaches, panels for book covers and much more. The wool we will be using is pure merino as this felts rapidly and easily. I'd like to inspire you to go on and invent new ways of using our results as this process can be done small-scale in almost any location and is a lot of fun!

Workshop #3: Eco Dying: Friday 15th January, 1-3pm

Join Kirsten Kosh for an introductory workshop into the process of direct dyeing with plants and other 'garden shed' items onto natural fibre fabrics. Create beautiful layouts, roll them up, bind them, and then steam them to create permanent prints on the fabric. As we work we will discuss this particular dye process, dye plants and dye materials, mordants and good fabric choices. Fabrics we'll be using in this workshop are repurposed wool blankets cut into panels which can be later used to make cushions, knee rugs and much more.

Workshop #4: 4KT Elephant Toy Making: Saturday 16th January, 1-3pm

Join Fiona Jenkin for a toy making workshop designed to lighten the load of local textile waste to landfill, by transforming fabric and clothing scraps into cute soft toy elephants. Join us to learn to sew your own adorable, individually numbered elephant. Some previous sewing machine experience is helpful, but help is on hand for the tricky bits :)

Workshop #5: Hand Knitting: Wednesday 20th January, 1-3pm

Learning how to knit, enables us and sets us free to create. Just like we learn to hold a pencil to write, a brush to pain, we learn how to knit, and a whole world of creativity opens up before us. So let’s start! This workshop with Christie du Toit will give you lots of tips on casting on, knit and purl stitches and develop an idea from a pattern, a picture, or a combination of anything. Participants get to keep their needles and a selection of yarn, to continue their creative experiments.

Workshop #6: Mini Rag Rug Weaving: Thursday 21st January, 1-3pm

Join Vivien Dwyer to learn a variety of simple hand weaving techniques without the need for large frames, using small DIY looms and scrap fabrics to create unique fabric panels. Larger pieces (such as rugs) can be made by joining panels together. There will be both flat weaving and pile weaving in these squares as well as joining methods and general information for future makings. We will be using scrap fabric but the ideas given and learned will also be applicable to almost any other yarn of materials you have available.

Workshop #7: Button Jewellery Making: Friday 22nd January, 1-3pm

Have fun with Desi Liversage making your own jewellery from buttons and beads! Learn techniques for wiring and threading and explore contrasting colours, shapes and sizes to make unique necklaces, bracelets, earrings, key-rings and bag tags.

Workshop #8: Pet Toys: Saturday 23rd January, 1-3pm

This 'no-sew' workshop is great fun for anyone who wants to be creative without needing to thread a needle. Join Jeremy Jourdain for this child friendly workshop making pet cushions and beds; wands; and other toys (while helping to upcycle our amazing supply of textile off-cuts and 'scraps' and other common household 'waste' items).
