Stitched Together | Book Bags for Bubs
Event description
Join us and Australia’s next generation pioneer of iconic Aussie prints and design, Ellie Whittaker, for for the first event of our Stitched Together series where participants of all ages share skills or learn new ones while contributing to a community project and/or community art installation.
Part of a larger, soon to be formally announced project called ReCommunity, 'Stitched Together' will harness the incredible generosity that volunteer sewists and others made during recent natural disasters and the pandemic where we came together as a force for good making face masks, joey pouches and koala mittens.
This first event is Book Bags for Bubs which will see participants coming together to produce Book Bags to be distributed to local women's refuges and other services supporting women and babies.
Fabrics and special guest appearance from the wonderful Ellie Whittaker and her Caravan of Colour will launch the first of these community workshops. Books generously donated by Walker Books Australia. Additional donations of fabrics and books gladly received from individuals and local businesses.
The intent of the project is to create lasting communities of belonging where people can come together to share their love of everything woven or stitched, spun, knitted, quilted or crocheted, sharing laughter, and friendship; ready to mobilise, collectively to respond to the next community need as it arises.
This workshop is free to participants. All materials provided, a number of sewing machines and overlockers will be available for use but BYO sewing machine if you have one. Includes a light lunch. Registration essential.
Creche services available at Wilderness Play Centre from 10-12pm.
